This particular jewelry casket (Victorians used the word casket to describe a fancy box or container) is very heavy and had a silver finish at one time that has long since polished away. The patina of this piece is wonderful now and it has beautiful details that make it extra special. The lid of this casket is adorned with deep relief roses, leaves and a fabulous curved handle. It has another large rose on the front with more leaf patterns around the back and sits on four legs. This is the type of jewelry casket that usually had ruched satin lining on the inside.
